Yosemite was established as a National Park in 1890 in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s famed for the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome, its ancient giant sequoia trees, and for towering waterfalls in the wet months.
Yosemite Valley was the site of an ancestral village of the Miwok people, and their heritage is honored at the Yosemite Museum and maintained during ceremonies and special gatherings in the Indian Village of Ahwahnee behind the museum.
Yosemite Valley also offers a range of lodging, from camping to 4 star luxury, paved bike trails, inner tubing down the Merced River, the Ansel Adams Gallery, and access to multiple hiking trails. It's also famous for its rock climbing.
